6th Annual National Garage Sale for Shelter attracts thousands of shoppers and brings safety and hope to women and children
After a long winter, Royal LePage Terrequity agents, brokers, and staff were eager to celebrate milder weather and the Mother’s Day weekend by hosting the 6th Annual National Garage Sale for Shelter on Saturday, May 10.
This year’s event, held at our Thornhill, Midtown, Mississauga and Liberty Village office locations, raised an impressive $1,200, with 100% of proceeds going to help women and children who have experienced family violence. This national event took place at 115 locations across Canada and raised more than $315,000 in total in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. The foundation funds 200 women’s shelters and assists more than 30,000 women and children escape abuse each year. With Royal LePage underwriting the administrative costs of the Shelter Foundation and sponsors covering event expenses, every dollar raised goes directly to the cause.
Since 2009, this annual event – believed to be the largest, multi-location charity garage sale in Canada – has generated $2 million. The National Garage Sale for Shelter highlights the commitment of Royal LePage to putting an end to violence in Canadian homes. “Royal LePage professionals are tireless in their efforts to help create safer homes and healthier communities through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation,” says Phil Soper, Royal LePage’s President and CEO.
“Every day in Canada, more than 5,500 women and children are staying in a shelter to escape domestic violence and many more are currently in abusive relationships,” says Shanan Spencer-Brown, Executive Director of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. “The National Garage Sale for Shelter brings the community together to offer safety and hope to abused women and their children and the chance to rebuild their lives.”
A special thank you goes out to local sponsors and to the event’s national sponsors TD Canada Trust Mobile Mortgage Specialists, Atlas Van Lines Canada, Your Commission Today, Kaiser Lachance Communications, and Xerox, whose generous support and unparalleled commitment to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation made this event possible.
