So you want to renovate your bathroom?

The good news is that the bathroom is one of the most popular rooms to renovate. As a result, there are countless ideas and ways to approach a bathroom renovation.

Obviously, the most influential component of any renovation project is your budget. Your budget is your starting point and will quickly set your parameters as to what you can afford to do and how different you can make your bathroom.  However, regardless of your budget, there are many things that people can do to give their bathroom a fresh look, even if they are on a limited budget.

The trick for your bathroom renovation project, and for any renovation project for that matter, is to plan ahead. If you know that you want to do your renovation in the spring, start now and keep an eye out for deals on the items that you want to replace. Getting  a few good deals will allow you to either reduce the cost of the renovation or accomplish more with your allotted budget.

Here are some cost effective tips that home owners can implement to refresh the look of their bathroom while getting the most bang for their buck:

  1. Insert some color: Painting is always a great way to give any room in your home a fresh look. Try something bold, consider an accent wall, or go with a color that is completely different from your current one. But, don’t cheap out. Make sure you use a high quality paint that is appropriate for bathroom walls or you may have to repaint again in the near future.

  2. Faucets: One way to quickly give your bathroom a new look is to replace the faucets. This is especially effective if you have an older style vanity, bath or shower.

  3. Replace accessories: One of the fastest and most cost effective ways to give your bathroom a new look is to replace the accessories you use. Change the shower curtain, window coverings, and mats. Also consider using a new color of towels, change the shelving or do something as simple as changing your soap dispenser and tooth brush holder, or purchasing a more modern looking garbage can.

  4. Change some of the hardware: Consider moving or replacing the towel rack, changing the knobs on the vanity, or adding new shower doors. It is amazing what a little shine can do for the look of your bathroom.

  5. Other options: If you have a little more money to spend on your bathroom renovation, consider retiling your tub, purchasing a new mirror, replacing your toilet, or even adding new flooring in your bathroom.
