This summer a brave group of Royal LePagers are taking on one of the world's most famous challenges: trekking to the lost city of Machu Picchu, Peru. When I was young and foolish, I tackled this mountain adventure and I can tell you it is not easy. Crossing high passes through the Andes at heights up to 14,000 feet -- that's double the summit at Whistler -- our intrepid team of trekkers will be hiking for eight days straight. They will sleep in tents with only the food and water they carry with them (o.k., the guides carry the food!) No bathrooms. No electricity. No mobile phones!
These wonderful people are participating in the Machu Picchu Challenge for Shelter in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. For months now, they have been training to prepare for the physical challenge, and fundraising. With every step they will take, they will be making it easier for women and children here at home to make their own trek away from domestic violence towards new beginnings.
With your help, we have raised millions for our cause, making the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation the largest charity of its kind in the nation. People -- many, many people -- depend on us. In 2015, the Machu Picchu Challenge for Shelter will be our largest single fundraising initiative. We need your help!
Our participants have already raised $300,000 toward a goal of $350,000. All trekkers are not only fundraising, but some are also personally matching the donations they receive. Please sponsor one of your colleagues today.
You can see who is participating by clicking the link below. To sponsor a trekker, simply click their name to be directed to their online donation page!
With your support, we can provide safety and hope to thousands of women and children across Canada.
