Terrequity Children's Foundation (TCF) is pleased to announce its most recent contribution to the YMCA.
The YMCA offers a diverse range of programs including health, fitness, and recreation programs, like swimming, basketball, and fitness; child, youth and family development programs, such as childcare, and summer camps; and employment and community programs, including job training skills, youth housing, and substance abuse counseling.
The YMCA operates an “Everyone is Welcome” policy where no one is denied access to their programs based on their inability to pay the full fee. Last year over 32.000 people received direct financial assistance to participate in programs they otherwise would not have been able to.
The YMCA began its Toronto programs 155 years ago. It currently has 8 YMCA Health, Fitness, and Recreation Centres in the GTA in addition to its summer day and overnight camps. In total, the YMCA works with over 450,000 people annually.
Terrequity Children's Foundation’s donation will support sending children to YMCA summer camps who would have otherwise not been able to afford it. There is a particularly high demand for financial assistance for camp this year – over 500 families in the GTA have requested the financial support of the YMCA to send their children to camp.
TCF would like to thank Bijan Hirji for recommending that it support the YMCA. Bijan has been a member of the YMCA for 15 years and has been a YMCA volunteer for the past 7 years. In that time, he has donated over 200 hours as a weekly instructor/mentor. In 2009, Bijan was a recipient of the YMCA’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award.
