Terrequity Children's Foundation (TCF) is pleased to announce its most recent contribution to the Women's Habitat of Etobicoke.
Women's Habitat of Etobicoke provides shelter and support for women and their children fleeing violence. It provides a safe refuge, counseling, and support and advocacy for women and their children. Women can also access community services, such as legal aid, subsidized childcare, subsidized housing, and language and job training through the organization.
Women's Habitat of Etobicoke recognizes that the wellbeing of children is dependent on the wellbeing of the adults in their lives. In this spirit, Women's Habitat works to improve the lives of children through support and advocacy for their mothers.
Women's Habitat of Etobicoke was founded over 30 years ago and has grown to a 25-bed shelter, with 10 separate bedrooms. In addition to the shelter, Women's Habitat provides Outreach Programs including an Abused Women's Group; an after-school violence prevention program for girls ages 10 - 13 called Girlz Space; parent/child and women's drop-in programs; and a Good Food Market that sells health, fresh produce at affordable prices.
Terrequity Children's Foundation's donation will go directly to purchasing grocery and department store gift cards to help women who are leaving the shelter to set up a new home. The donation will also go to purchasing TTC tokens for women to go to job interviews, court appointments, or to take their children to the doctor.
TCF would like to thank Steve Santon for recommending that it support Women's Habitat of Etobicoke.
